Work is still crazy busy, and I am feeling quite lonely sat here in my hotel room, thousands of miles away from my lovely wife and samoyed. I am not sure why, but I felt compelled to put some thoughts up here, though I am still not ready to get to regular posting just yet. I’ll baby step my way into this blogging malarkey.
Let’s start this post big though… here’s a picture of Sammy, though last I saw her she was much fluffier than this with a full winter coat
I am sure I am not the only person in the world who carries a heavy burden through work, I’ve known for some time this was going to be a busy year, and we’re right in the thick of that busy spell. Needs must and there’s been a fair bit of travel needed lately which I know a lot of people would love, but for a homebird like me, notsomuch. Daddy’s gotta do what Daddy’s gotta do to keep the gravy bones and pedigree chum flowing for my Samberlina’s.
At the end of the day, there’s no question of whether I’d rather be in work with a lot to do, or have no work at all [a Euro-millions win aside!]
I’m looking forward to meeting my former boss for some dinner and beer’s tomorrow night. He’s one of the nicest and funniest people I’ve ever met, and the truth is if he hadn’t of taken a gamble on me a few years ago, I’d never have had the chance to move my career along. We would have never moved to Galway, and because the flip side of that gamble was redundancy I’d have probably taken the first job that would have covered the bills (or as close to it as available) and I would be floating around over-achieving and getting under paid in Individual Contributor roles. He himself was “let go” last summer in what was a shock that no-one saw coming, even in the cut-throat, high turn over environment we operate in.
It would be fair to say 2014 was not his favourite year of his, with a triple whammy of shitty life events all coming in a short space of time. This is my first chance to see him face-to-face in almost exactly a year, so we’ll drink a few Sam Adams and toast to better days ahead.
Saturday see’s a high chance of hangover early on, with a trip to the shops and a few beers in the aforementioned hotel room on the cards. I’m sure most would take full advantage and go sight-seeing, or do the touristy thing, but Sunday is going to be a school day with plenty of work carrying over already, the new boss flies in Sunday night with her boss, and his boss joining us Monday to tell us all the things we have got wrong or not done yet all next week.
…Though I must admit when a colleague sent a link with 25 free things to do in Boston I was very, very tempted to go take a look here: http://www.museumofbadart.org/
Football, Football, Football!
It’s a big weekend for Manchester United with the big derby game Sunday. I can’t believe I’ll not be home, a pint or six in hand, to cheer or mourn accordingly. A few weeks ago I would not have thought United would be in with a chance, and City are surely still favourites, but it’s possible the winner could also secure the higher league position come the end of the season as the spoils for a win on Sunday; in addition to the bragging rights. Chelsea will surely (and rightly) win the league this year, but United are showing signs they could be in a position to challenge next year if they can continue their run of good form. If they lose, not all is lost, third or fourth was all most fans hoped for at the start of the season, and in November that seemed unlikely. I’ll wait a few weeks before I begin in with the transfer speculations, but if anyone name drops Wesley Sneider for what would surely be the 17th season I shall snort derisively in your general direction.
In the Super 6 I’ve gone for:
Southampton 3 – 0 Hull
Sunderland 2 -1 Crystal Palace
Tottenham 2 – 1 Villa
West Brom 3 – 1 Leicester
West Ham 2 – 1 Stoke
Barnsley 1 – 3 Arsenal
Golden Goal: 7
Verse of the Day
I doubt there’ll be too much bible thumping here, but I do have Bible Gateway App on my phone and for no particular reason today’s VotD stirred a little something deep in that black cold heart of mine.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
I sincerely hope you all have a great day, weekend, week, month, etc.
If you get to be with your loved one’s this weekend, make sure you tell them how much you love them. Have fun, make them laugh, be silly.
